How to Price Imported Products for Resale (Simple Formula)

Many new sellers set a price by guessing and later discover they made no profit. Here is a simple method to price imported products so every sale covers your costs.
Step 1: Find the landed cost
Landed cost is everything you pay to get one piece into your hands:
- Product price (for example Large Capacity Computer Backpack at ৳2,569).
- China → Bangladesh shipping by weight, divided by the number of pieces.
- Local delivery to you, if any.
Step 2: Add selling costs
- Packaging (bags, boxes, tape).
- Delivery to your customer, if you offer free delivery.
- Advertising per sale (for example Facebook boost cost divided by orders).
- Payment fees and returns.
Step 3: Add your margin
Margin is what pays for your time and growth. Decide a margin you are comfortable with, then check that the final price is still competitive for similar products in Bangladesh.
Formula to price imported products
Selling price = landed cost + selling costs + your margin
Worked example (illustration)
Say a bag costs ৳1,000 landed, packaging and delivery add ৳150 and ads cost about ৳100 per sale. Total cost is ৳1,250. With a margin of ৳350, your selling price is ৳1,600. These numbers are only an example — use your own.
Tips
- Light items like Four-Leaf Clover Enamel Bracelet have small shipping costs, so margins are easier.
- Bulky items need sea shipping to stay profitable — see air vs sea.
- Pairs and sets, like Fashionable Sports Shoes for Couples, can raise order value.
Next: sell China products on Facebook.
Review prices every season
Supplier prices, shipping costs and competition change. Check your numbers every few months and adjust. A product that was profitable by air may need to come by sea to stay profitable, and a popular item may support a slightly higher price if your service is good.
